I wish I could! :sigh:

dim inactive windows on snow leopard

exposé trick on snow leopard
I know, it is silly, but ain’t it cool that when you start typing the window name while on exposé it highlights it and pressing enter bring it to the front?

exposé vs. stickies on snow leopard
Another small bug I found on snow leopard is that when using stickies, if you resize the note and then call exposé it fails to get the right size of the window. It looks like the previous size is kept and the backlight of the window is displayed as so.
Not a problem at all, but a bug, for sure.
Sometimes I miss the old school exposé

snow leopard with multiple monitors issue
Yesterday I was working with my 19″ samsung monitor plugged in my macbook. It works flawlessly, absolutely no problems…. until I put it to sleep, unplug the monitor and wake it up.
What happens is that the windows that were on the secondary display won’t be shown by exposé and it is really a pain to get it working normally after that. I had to hide the window and call it again otherwise it was lost somewhere.
Since I got about five windows that I was still needing to use and exposé was messing up with them I opted for rebooting to save some time.
Hope it gets fixed soon.

Problems with Snow Leopard
I’m going through some problems while using snow leopard. I think they might go away after some updates but anyway, here they are.
After some time, my airport just kept turned off when the computer woke up. It was quite annoying since I almost never turn the mac off. The workaround was installing an app, wireless sleeper, that, besides turning the airport on on waking up, turns it off when sleeping. The second part is rather useless, but hey, now I don’t have to turn it on again every time.
I’ve experienced some HUGE slowdowns with Safari. Usually just restarting it gets it back to normal, but sometimes it is really a pain in the ass. Opening a new tab takes about 5 seconds, something that NEVER happened with Leopard.
The exposé is choppy compared to the Leopard version. The command + 1 and command + 2 are welcome, so as the organized look. Maybe it is just bad luck, but it happens quite often to me. Right now I’m with many windows opened and it is working fine, so I have no idea of what is causing that.
Parallels SUCKS. I haven’t upgraded it yet, but as it is there is no better word to describe it: SHIT! Many times slower than what I was getting with Leopard. Restoring the machine state, using the VM, suspending the machine. Everything is soooooo slower than before that it boring.
There is a small glitch with the dock (I use it hidden) and expose, when you call expose while leaving the mouse cursor over an icon and calling and dismissing it again will make the icon “pop up”… sort of… Calling exposé, hovering the mouse over and then out of the dock, and dismissing it will take the glitch away… but anyway… it happens
It doesn’t bother me at all, but it is noticeable and as people at Apple are concerned with those details, they’ll probably fix it.I also had some problems with a CalDAV that was working previously, but since I rarely used it, I removed it and can’t see the problem anymore
My macbook is running a bit hotter than before, but it may be some dust inside it. I have to check it.
Well… I guess I complained a lot, but I absolutely didn’t dislike Snow Leopard. It is stable, fast (most part of the time), has some great features (most of them are details, but I like the way it is) and works pretty well with most of the software I had.
For a first releas, it is very good and I intend to stick with it. Keep up the good job!

Con Kolivas is back with BFS
Today I read something that was very pleasant to me. Con Kolivas is developing patches for the linux kernel again. First SD, now we have BFS (Brain Fuck Scheduler) that, according to him, has a very simple design and is also intended for desktops. The patch was developed taking out some fat from CFS (it doesn’t mean it is developer over it), which scales well for heavy loads on multiple CPUs, but that is not the reality for a good part of linux users, mainly the desktop users.
After all the guy went through, I find it pretty cool that he is back. It is clear that he is doing all for fun, the faq speaks by itself.
“Why Brain Fuck?”
…
“Because it’s designed in such a way that mainline would never be interested in adopting it, which is how I like it.”
…
“Because I must be fucked in the head to be working on this again”
…
“Are you looking at getting this into mainline?”
…
“No. They would be crazy to use this scheduler anyway since it won’t scale to their 4096 cpu machine.”
…
“it will compromise the performance where *I* care”
I’m glad he is back
The first successfull boot was on last 25th, so there are probably some bugs. The only known is tracing tasks, which the author asks not to be done until he fixes it.
As always, do it at your own risk and any help is welcome.
Good job -ck!

Bom trabalho -ck!

Snow Leopard, first impressions
I’ve installed Snow Leopard by this morning. It hasn’t been a long time, so it’s hard to tell how everything is going. This post is just for telling what it prompty shows

First things first, the installation
As we could expect, it is really simple. Push the DVD in, double-click the installation icon, click twice on continue and you’re done.
I was upset about the 55 minutes it took for upgrading, from the begining to the reboot. Anyway, after that, I got a pleasant surprise. What people was saying about 5 to 10 GB of disk space freed was far from true to me. I got a whooping 20GB! From 30GB to 50GB. A LOT more than what I expected. I believe it was so because of the huge amount of software that I have installed on my computer, and thus removing the PowerPC stuff could free a lot of space.
After I got it installed I was trying to find broken stuff. So far, the following apps were down: istat menu, mailunreadmenu, istumbler, growl and kismac. Let’s get on it:
ISTAT MENU
Installed the beta 2 over it and it’s ok now.
MAILUNREADMENU
The update didn’t work, so I removed it and reinstalled. Working fine.
ISTUMBLER
No way xD
GROWL
It says it is not working, and indeed the prefpane is broken. Anyway, the notifications are 100%, so… who cares?
KISMAC
Passive mode is ok, active is broken. Using AirPort Extreme
Another app peoplo were complaining about was Cord, for me it was working. Updated and so, no problems at all.
Now, let’s talk about the OS. Exposé is damn nice. I was affraid that cleaning up the chaos that the windows were spreaded over would ruin the fun of it. I really liked the way it was. But I really can’t complain about what has been done. Much better than expected. The tags below the windows are a nice touch (although using the meta key in Leopard had the same effect). A brilliant detail is that the minimized windows also appear in exposé, below the others. It is now easy to call them without running to the dock.
The finder preview is cool, I don’t find it that useful, but it is, to say the least, pretty. A much more appreciated feature is the wireless signal strength that is now shown in the menu bar or when you are trying to find a network. Quicktime X is clean, fast and ran pretty well here. I’m not a big fan of it, but I’ll give it a try.
As I find more stuff I’ll post here.
BTW. command+meta+eject puts your mac to sleep. Maybe I’ll unbind the quicksilver shortcut for calling the screensaver.

Primeira coisa, a instalação.
Falando agora do sistema.
